Xerox 914 Includes Fire Extinguisher

The first commercially successful plain-paper photocopier was the Xerox 914, introduced in 1959. Because the mechanically complex machine tended to overheat and catch fire, Xerox supplied each unit with a "scorch eliminator," which was simply a small fire extinguisher. One of the two copiers at its televised public debut caught fire, while consumer advocate Ralph Nader reported that his office machine caught fire three times in four months.
