Penny Marshall Breaks Box-Office Barrier

The first woman to direct a film that earned more than $100 million at the U.S. box office was Penny Marshall. Her 1988 body-swap comedy Big, starring Tom Hanks, became the groundbreaking hit that carried her past the milestone. Marshall repeated the achievement with A League of Their Own in 1992, making it her second film to cross $100 million.
