Harald Became Norway's Native-Born King

Norwegian King Harald V was three years old when he fled the German invasion of Norway with his mother, Norwegian Crown Princess Martha, and his two sisters in 1940. They crossed into Sweden before sailing to the United States, where Harald lived in Washington, D.C. He returned to Norway after the war ended in 1945. When Harald inherited the throne in 1991, he became Norway's first Norwegian-born monarch in roughly 610 years, following Olav IV in 1380.
