Fat Controller Became Topham Hatt

“The Fat Controller” in Thomas & Friends is called “Sir Topham Hatt” in the American version, because “fat” was considered derogatory in the US but not in the UK. British releases continue to use Fat Controller and reserve his real name for formal situations. The spinoff Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go later adopted the name Sir Topham Hatt in both countries.
