Frisson Extends Beyond Musical Goosebumps

Frisson is the brief tingling and goosebumps that music can produce in about half of all people. The response is not uniquely musical and can also arise during intense moments of understanding, such as a scientific breakthrough, or during a powerful religious ceremony. The brain's reward system contributes the pleasurable feeling, while the sympathetic nervous system produces the tingling, chills, and goosebumps.
