Buzz Aldrin Saw Cosmic-Ray Flashes

During the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969, Buzz Aldrin reported seeing flashes of light even when his eyes were closed. NASA later linked the effect to cosmic rays, high-energy charged particles that passed through his eyes and stimulated his retinas. His brain perceived flashes even though no external light had entered his eyes.
