George R.R. Martin's Comicon Registration

The first person to register for the first recorded official comic book convention was future fantasy author George R.R. Martin. He was 15 when he bought ticket number one for the New York Comicon, held at Manhattan's Workman's Circle Building on July 24, 1964. The one-day gathering attracted more than 100 fans and featured comic-book figures including Steve Ditko, Flo Steinberg, and Tom Gill.
