The first dog to receive the VITA Wireless Samaritan Award, an honor recognizing lifesaving cellphone use, was a service beagle named Belle. In 2006, her owner, a man named Kevin Weaver, collapsed during a diabetic seizure. Belle bit his cellphone's 9 key, activating its 911 speed dial and summoning emergency help.
