In May 1985, Soviet KGB colonel and British double agent Oleg Gordievsky returned to Moscow after a sudden recall, where the KGB drugged and interrogated him for about five hours. He maintained his cover, but the KGB placed him under surveillance and barred him from working abroad. After activating MI6's Operation Pimlico, Gordievsky evaded his KGB tails on July 19 and hid inside the boot of a Ford Sierra heading for Finland. At the border, a British diplomat's wife dropped her baby's dirty nappy, causing the sniffer dogs to flee and helping Gordievsky escape before MI6 flew him to Britain via Norway.
