Japanese Olympic judo athlete Isao Inokuma won heavyweight gold at the 1964 Tokyo Games and a world championship in 1965. After retiring from competition, he remained involved in judo and became CEO of Tokai Construction in 1993. In 2001, reportedly amid the company's financial difficulties, Inokuma died by committing seppuku. Tokai Construction declared bankruptcy 14 days later with liabilities of approximately 20 billion yen. It is the last notable case of seppuku.
