Abduwali Muse Received 33-Year Sentence

A man named Abduwali Muse, the Somali pirate later portrayed in Captain Phillips, helped hijack the American cargo ship Maersk Alabama in April 2009 and held its captain, Richard Phillips, hostage. US Navy SEAL snipers killed Muse's three accomplices during the rescue, while authorities captured Muse and transported him to New York. After he pleaded guilty to hijacking, kidnapping, and hostage-taking, a federal judge sentenced him in 2011 to 33 years and nine months in prison.
