Navajo Nation Sued Urban Outfitters

The Navajo Nation, which registered "Navajo" as a trademark in 1943, sued Urban Outfitters in 2012 after the retailer sold "Navajo Hipster Panties" and "Navajo Print Flasks." Urban Outfitters had used the name since 2001 and argued that the tribe had waited too long to object, but a federal judge rejected the company's motion in 2016. The two sides reached an undisclosed settlement that November and signed an agreement to collaborate on a line of Native American jewelry.
