Alexander's Tuesday Appearance Proved Fatal

Yugoslav king Alexander I refused to attend public functions on Tuesdays because three members of his family had died on that day of the week. On Tuesday, October 9, 1934, he relented as he had little choice but to appear publicly while beginning a state visit to France. As Alexander rode through Marseille, Bulgarian assassin Vlado Chernozemski stepped into the street and fatally shot him.
