Infernal Machine Killed Eighteen Bystanders

In 1835, Corsican conspirator Giuseppe Marco Fieschi attempted to assassinate French king Louis Philippe I during an annual National Guard inspection in Paris. From a third-floor apartment overlooking the procession, Fieschi fired the "Infernal Machine," a homemade gun containing 25 rifle barrels designed to discharge simultaneously. The weapon unleashed approximately 400 projectiles, killing 18 people and injuring 22, including at least four who required amputations. Louis Philippe suffered only a graze to his forehead, while Fieschi was severely wounded by his own weapon and later guillotined.
