Alfonso XIII Became King Naked

Spanish king Alfonso XII died in 1885, while his wife, Maria Christina, was pregnant. Alfonso XIII was born at Madrid's Royal Palace in May 1886 and immediately became king, with his mother serving as regent. Just after his birth, attendants carried the naked infant on a silver tray to Prime Minister Praxedes Mateo Sagasta. Five days later, Alfonso was baptized with water from the River Jordan while wearing the Golden Fleece.
