Akbar Collected Thousands Of Cheetahs

Large-scale capture for royal hunting became one of the main reasons cheetahs disappeared from India. Mughal rulers caught wild cheetahs, tamed them, and trained them to chase game while repeatedly removing cubs from the wild. Some records estimate that Mughal emperor Akbar collected between 9,000 and 10,000 cheetahs during his reign from 1556 to 1605. In 1947 an Indian maharaja, Ramanuj Pratap Singh Deo, shot the last three confirmed wild Asiatic cheetahs.
