Comanche Talkers Coded D-Day Messages

The Navajo were not the only Native American code talkers during World War II. Fourteen Comanche code talkers serving with the US Army's 4th Signal Company landed at Utah Beach on D-Day and began transmitting messages shortly afterward. Their 250-term vocabulary called a tank a "turtle," a bomber a "pregnant bird," a machine gun a "sewing machine," and Adolf Hitler a "crazy white man." Some were wounded during their European service, but none were killed.
