In the weeks leading up to D-Day, General Dwight D. Eisenhower was reportedly smoking as many as six packs of cigarettes and drinking up to 24 cups of coffee a day under enormous pressure. He also rarely managed more than two hours of uninterrupted sleep per night as he prepared to make the final decision to launch the Normandy invasion.
