James Doohan Survived Six Bullets

Before playing Scotty on Star Trek, Canadian actor James Doohan survived being shot six times by friendly fire on D-Day. After landing at Juno Beach and leading his men inland, he was returning to his command post around 11:30 p.m. when a nervous Canadian sentry mistook him for the enemy and fired a Bren gun. Four bullets struck his leg, another hit a silver cigarette case over his chest, and the sixth passed through his right middle finger, which doctors later amputated. Doohan usually concealed the missing finger during his acting career, sometimes wearing a flesh-colored glove fitted with a false finger.
