Plague Fart Jars Promised Protection

One supposed Black Death remedy instructed people to fart into jars, seal them, and sniff the contents when plague reached their area. Some doctors believed the disease spread through deadly vapors and followed the principle that "like cured like." They hoped this stored "therapeutic stink" would overpower the infected air, but it could neither prevent nor cure bubonic plague.
