Watson Brake Predates Egypt's Pyramids

Watson Brake in Louisiana dates to around 3500 BCE, placing it before Stonehenge and roughly 1,000 years before the Egyptian pyramids. Hunter-gatherers built its 11 connected earthwork mounds over several centuries, arranging them in an oval nearly 900 feet across. Eight members of the Gentry family have owned most of the site since the 1950s, and one refuses to sell the land to the state. That refusal keeps Watson Brake closed to the public, although the family permits selected archaeologists to conduct research there.
