In 2006, a Nepalese Yeti Airlines co-pilot named Dipak Pokhrel died when a Twin Otter crashed near Jumla. His death inspired his widow, a woman named Anju Khatiwada, to become a pilot, and she had logged nearly 6,400 flying hours by 2023. On January 15, 2023, more than 16 years after her husband's death, Khatiwada was co-piloting Yeti Airlines Flight 691 when it crashed into a gorge near Pokhara, killing all 72 people aboard.
