Taejong's Horse Fall Entered History

Taejong's Horse Fall Entered History

From 1392 to 1865, Korean court historians kept meticulous records of the Joseon Dynasty that eventually filled 1,893 volumes. On March 18, 1404, King Taejong fell from his horse while shooting arrows at a deer, escaped injury, and ordered those around him not to tell the historians. The historian present ignored him and recorded both the fall and Taejong's attempt to hide it, demonstrating the recorders' independence from the king.
