Rib-Hadda Flooded Akhenaten With Letters

Around 1350 BC, Byblos king Rib-Hadda sent Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten roughly 60 clay-tablet letters, repeatedly pleading for military help. He complained about attacks from Amurru, rebellious subjects, captured ships, assassins, and the loss of cities under his control. His constant appeals irritated Akhenaten, who demanded in Amarna letter EA 117, "Why do you alone keep writing to me?" The pleas largely went unanswered, and Rib-Hadda's younger brother eventually forced him into exile.
