During the Battle of Crecy on August 26, 1346, the completely blind King John of Bohemia insisted on fighting despite having lost his sight a decade earlier. He asked his knights to lead him far enough into the battle to strike the enemy with his sword, so they tied their horses' reins together and placed him at the front. John reportedly landed several blows before the charge ended with the 50-year-old king and his entire company dead. The following day, soldiers found them lying around John with their horses still tied together.
