Nokia Rejected Its iPhone-Like Prototype

In 2004, once-dominant Finnish phone maker Nokia had both an internet-ready, large-display touchscreen smartphone prototype later described as "iPhone-like" and plans for an online app store. Former Nokia marketing manager Ari Hakkarainen said management killed the phone because touchscreen potential remained uncertain and the expensive device seemed too risky, while Nokia also rejected the app store concept.
