Napoleon Saved Marie Louise First

During the difficult birth of his son in 1811, French Emperor Napoleon was asked whether doctors should prioritize his wife, Empress Marie Louise, or the child, and he ordered them to save the empress. Both Marie Louise and the baby survived, and his son, Napoleon Francois Joseph Charles Bonaparte, received the title of King of Rome. The ordeal traumatized Napoleon, who said, "I had rather never have any more children than see her suffer so much again."
