Fifty Shades Began As Fanfiction

British author E.L. James began what became "Fifty Shades of Grey" as "Twilight" fanfiction and wrote a significant portion of the early material on her BlackBerry. Originally titled "Master of the Universe," the story featured versions of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan before James reworked the characters into Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The rewritten story became the first book in the bestselling "Fifty Shades" trilogy.
