In 1997, 10-day-old Delimar Vera was kidnapped from her Philadelphia home by a woman named Carolyn Correa, who deliberately set a fire to cover the abduction and then raised the baby as her own under the name Aaliyah. Authorities believed Delimar had died in the blaze, but six years later, her mother, Luz Cuevas, spotted a young girl at a birthday party who looked strikingly like her. Cuevas pursued DNA testing, which proved in 2004 that the girl was her missing daughter. Correa was arrested and later convicted of kidnapping, arson, and attempted murder, receiving a prison sentence of 9 to 30 years.
