Ferrari Punishes Owners Who Disobey

Ferrari imposes strict rules and expectations on its car owners, including discouraging public criticism of the brand, prohibiting certain unofficial modifications, and restricting unauthorized resale during the first year of ownership. Buyers who sell early must generally give a Ferrari dealership the right of first refusal, while owners who violate company rules can be blacklisted from buying future Ferraris through official channels. Ferrari has also taken legal action over modifications and uses of its cars that it believes damage the brand, including sending musician Deadmau5 a cease-and-desist letter over his customized "Purrari." In another case, Ferrari sued fashion designer Philipp Plein over Instagram posts that it argued improperly used the Ferrari brand to promote his clothing.
