Optimus Prime Voice Honored Brother

Canadian voice actor Peter Cullen based the voice of Optimus Prime on his older brother Larry, a Marine who served in the Vietnam War. Before Cullen auditioned for the role, Larry advised him, "Peter, don't be a Hollywood hero, be a real hero. Real heroes don't yell and act tough; they are strong enough to be gentle." Cullen carried that idea into the audition, giving Optimus a calm, deep, authoritative voice instead of making him sound aggressive. He won the role and went on to voice Optimus Prime across numerous Transformers productions for decades.
