In the mid-1990s, a Montana helicopter repair businessman named Ron Garlick assembled a functioning AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter from supposedly demilitarized military surplus parts. Garlick equipped the aircraft with machine guns and rockets, then flew it near Missoula and used its weapons to hunt coyotes. Federal authorities considered seizing the helicopter after discovering that supposedly disabled military hardware had reached civilian buyers, but the FBI ultimately decided against raiding his property.
