In 2025, researchers reported a technique called 3D necroprinting, which used the proboscis of a dead mosquito as a high-resolution 3D printing nozzle. The team chose the mosquito’s feeding tube after examining natural structures such as stingers, fangs, and plant xylem vessels. The proboscis produced lines as fine as 20 micrometers, about twice as precise as some commercial micro-nozzles, while costing far less and remaining biodegradable.
