Premature babies are often cast to play newborns in movies and television because they look closer to a just-born infant while still meeting legal requirements that allow babies to work on set. In many productions, infants must be at least 15 days old before they can be filmed. Casting directors also favor twins and triplets because they are often smaller and can alternate between babies during shoots.
