Perth Zoo was placed under lockdown in 2017 after two orangutans momentarily broke free from their cage. A 5-year-old male orangutan fell over a barrier and landed in a garden bed outside the exhibit. His mother then dropped into the area, retrieved him, moved onto the visitor boardwalk, and voluntarily returned with him to the exhibit. Zoo staff cleared nearby visitors as standard procedure, and the whole incident ended in about 15 minutes.
