Columbo' writers William Link and Richard Levinson created Lieutenant Columbo’s “just one more thing” catchphrase because one scene came up too short. Instead of retyping the script on a typewriter, they had Peter Falk’s detective leave, return, and ask one last question as if he had forgotten something. It became Columbo’s signature move, letting him disarm suspects before landing the question that usually cracked them open.
