Marilyn Monroe’s Color Contract Exception

Marilyn Monroe’s contract required her films to be shot in color, but she made an exception for the 1959 comedy "Some Like It Hot." Director Billy Wilder chose black and white after color tests made American actors Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis look ghoulish in their female makeup. Monroe agreed after seeing how badly the makeup played in color, and the film kept its classic black-and-white look.
