Although the original Order of Assassins usually used assassination as a means of political survival, they also killed for pay. The Nizari Ismaili order operated from strongholds such as Alamut Castle in Persia and used agents who could spend years undercover before carrying out an execution. They recorded their assassinations in a roll of honor kept at Alamut.
