Scientists still do not fully know how acetaminophen, also sold as Tylenol and paracetamol, actually relieves pain and reduces fever. Researchers have suggested various ways acetaminophen might work, like its effects on prostaglandins in the central nervous system, substances like AM404, and pathways related to cannabinoids or serotonin, but none of these explanations have completely answered the question. Even current medical and pharmacology references still describe its exact mechanism of action as not fully understood.
