Missing Link Misled Biology

Biologists no longer favor the phrase "missing link" in discussions of human ancestors because it wrongly suggests that evolution moved in a straight, simple chain. Human evolution did not unfold as one form neatly replacing the next, so the term creates a misleading picture of how species changed over time. Scientists instead prefer terms like "last common ancestor," which better describe shared ancestry without implying a single linear ladder.
