Vince McMahon Banned “Wrestling”

When WWE chairman Vince McMahon ran the company, he pushed strict language rules on its TV product. He banned the word "wrestling," along with related variations, because he did not want the show framed like a traditional sport. Announcers and wrestlers had to avoid those terms on-air and stick to WWE-approved phrases instead.
