Catwoman Disappeared for Comics Code Era

Catwoman, who first appeared in 1940, disappeared from DC’s comics after Detective Comics #211 (September 1954) and did not return until "Superman’s Girl Friend, Lois Lane" #70 (November 1966). The timing lined up with the rise of the Comics Code Authority (1954), and later commentary has argued DC likely saw Catwoman as too risky for the era’s “keep it clean” self-regulation, especially given how easily she could read as too sexy or too morally slippery for the seal-of-approval crowd. When she finally came back, DC basically treated it as a controlled re-entry, easing her into the Silver Age after more than a decade off the board.
