In a 1999 DC comic, a new Justice League recruit named Antaeus decided the League’s rules moved too slowly, so he went and assassinated a Middle Eastern dictator written as a clear Saddam Hussein analogue. Instead of ending the suffering, the murder cracked open a power vacuum, and DC’s own recap says 10,000 people died in the chaos that followed. Crushed by what he set loose, Antaeus tore into his own cybernetics until he triggered his internal power source and killed himself.
