In 2012, a 31-year-old man named Michael Rorrer cleaned out his late great-aunt’s home in Virginia and found 345 well-preserved comics stuffed in a basement closet. The stash belonged to his late great-uncle, a man named Billy Wright, and it included holy-grail issues like Detective Comics No. 27, Action Comics No. 1, and Batman No. 1. When they were auctioned in New York City, the collection sold for about $3.5 million.
