In the mid-2000s, DC Comics went after DC Shoes over a similar-looking "DC" branding fight, but the paperwork war swung back fast. DC Shoes formally challenged DC Comics’ attempt to register the "DC" mark at the USPTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in 2006, and the Board even entered a notice of default when DC Comics did not file an answer on time. The dispute ended with Warner Bros. and DC paying DC Shoes to keep using the logo.
