Rage Against NBC Flags

In 1996, Rage Against the Machine showed up as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" with billionaire and presidential candidate Steve Forbes hosting. The band tried to hang upside-down American flags from their amps as a protest statement, but NBC and the show’s crew pulled them down right before the performance. Rage played "Bulls on Parade," then the show cut their planned second song and told them to leave. After that, the band never got invited back, and most accounts describe it as an effective ban.
