Kissinger’s Rejected Nobel Return

Kissinger’s Rejected Nobel Return

In 1973, Henry Kissinger shared the Nobel Peace Prize with North Vietnamese negotiator Le Duc Tho for negotiating the Paris Peace Accords. The award immediately triggered outrage because the Vietnam War was still raging, two Norwegian Nobel Committee members resigned in protest, and critics mocked the decision as the "Nobel War Prize." Le Duc Tho refused the prize from the start, and Kissinger later tried to return his award, but the Nobel Committee refused to take it back.
