America Already Eats Protein

In the United States, official protein guidance sets the recommended daily intake at 46 grams for an adult woman and 56 grams for an adult man, based on 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight, or about 0.36 grams per pound. Athletes often need more, with suggested intakes rising up to 1.4 to 1.8 g/kg. Even so, an average person in the U.S.A. today consumes more protein than the basic recommendation, at about 69.8 grams a day for women and 98.3 grams for men.
