Sony Bought Spider-Man Cheap

In 1999, Columbia Pictures, owned by Sony, secured the film rights to Spider-Man for $7 million after a long and tangled rights battle involving MGM and other studios. Since then, the mainstream Spider-Man film franchise has grossed over $11 billion worldwide (as of March 2026).
