A 1994 deal between Marvel and Universal still limits how Disney can use some of Marvel’s biggest characters at Walt Disney World in Florida. Because Universal Orlando continues to operate Marvel Super Hero Island with characters like Spider-Man and other major Marvel figures, Disney cannot freely build Florida attractions around those same character groups or brand a Florida land simply as Marvel the way it can elsewhere. That is why California got Avengers Campus while Florida’s Marvel presence has stayed much more limited and selective.
